Lighting Engagement Photography

Monday, August 15th, 2011

I’m one of the photographers in Edmonton that enjoys using strobes. I shoot a lot of weddings, but most wedding days are too fast to set up an elaborate lighting environment, so I mostly use strobes while capturing engagement photography. This photo shows the introduction of my newly constructed snoot. I built the snoot with commercial photography in mind, but it was so fast and efficient to use my strobes on this shoot that I may be able to include a few quick lighting setups during a wedding day.

Some of the best fun in photography is developing new techniques that can enhance the creative vision. I enjoy using light modifiers and mixing natural light with strobes or Speedlights. I found a great little tip on how to make a grid that fits in a snoot for a flash. Once I saw it I had to do this!

Snoot grid photo taken with iPhone camera. What?... the best camera is the one that's with you.

I will post the results once I get this baby in the field. :^)
